Back in the real ole settler days boats that entered the Nelson harbour did so via the entrance near Fifeshire Rock and had to time their entrances and exits with extreme precision.
Come 1906 and a heckin lot of Mr Nobels stuff - aka dynamite... The Cut, as its been referred to ever since was opened.
